saturday about 12:30 7,800 ft 2400 m the approach. the trail from lupine meadows takes us up garnet canyon. that's the middle teton in the background.




saturday about 2:00 pm 9,200 ft 2830 m getting it done. here we are about half way up garnet canyon. we're on our way up to the exum hut on the saddle of the grand teton.




saturday about 6:00 pm 11,620 ft 3575 m the exum hut. steve enjoys an energy bar after our arrival at the hut. that's brendan our mega-guide in the blue fleece. the middle teton looms above us in the background.




saturday about 6:30 pm our lofty goal. the grand teton catches a last bit of evening sun. this is the view to the north along the saddle. the smaller peak to the left is the enclosure.




what's to come on sunday at 3:45 am the hike to the upper saddle. in the pitch dark we will depart and by the light of our headlamps we will slowly make our way to the upper saddle. just as it begins to turn light we will begin the actual climb to the summit.




sunday about 6:00 am 13,100 ft 4030 m beginning the climb. brendan checks his protection and we prepare to rope up for the first pitch of the climb. the exposure here is impressive with a 2000 ft drop below one of the ledges. we will climb seven pitches. the last stretch will be an easy scramble over boulders to the summit.




sunday 7:45 am 13,770 ft 4197 m the summit. a warm perfectly windless morning awaits us at 13,770 feet. our group from left to right: linda, steve, rachel, and brendan. that's jackson lake in the background.




sunday about 10:00 am 12,800 ft 3940 m the descent. we begin the long trip down. here we are just below the upper saddle and finally see the terrain we ascended in the dark. by 11:00 or so we will be back down at the saddle.




sunday about 11:00 am 11,620 ft 3575 m feet don't fail us now. after a quick snack at the hut, we start down garnet canyon for the 8 mile hike out that will feel twice as long!
